President

Peter Kandis
Member of the Fellowship since 1985.

Board Liaison: Religious Education

UUFC Positions held: Past Chair, Religious Education; Past Chair, Finance Committee; Past Secretary fo the Board

I have special place in my heart for the UUFC because it is where I first became a UU. I love being in a community where I can make a difference, where democracy and respect come together to form a more perfect union. Being in this most healthy relationship has nurtured my growth and has allowed me to be a better family member and friend.

The gift of the Fellowship and all that goes with it is a sacred trust. We must be good stewards of our community and our property. The Master Plan to renovate our sanctuary will make it possible to set a good example, share our community with more folks, lighten our impact on the environment, and leave a legacy as one has been left for us.

President-Elect

Mike Paget
Member of the Fellowship since 1981.

Board Liaison: Chair, Planning Committeee

UUFC Positions held: Former Chair, Religious Education; Former Chair, Endowment; Manages Coffeehouse; Chair, Long Range Planning Committee

The UUFC is experiencing tremendous growth in professionalism, numbers of active members, and visions. I am energized by the people who attend, and by the commentary I experience at the UUFC.

I hope to see these positive times continue, with lots of congregational implementation of the Long Range Plan goals, including the renovation of our facilities. I believe that the Columbia community needs the voice of the UUFC, and I think we are moving towards being better able to provide that voice.

Mike and Kathy are the powerhouse behind the Coffee House.

Secretary

Jessica Kross
Member of the Fellowship since 1975.

Board Liaison: Personnel

UUFC Positions Held: Served on several Boards; Chaired Worship Committee several times; Member, Ministerial Search Committee; Served on ad-hoc Personnel Policies Manual and Bylaws Committees.

Jessica participated in Liberal Religious Youth as a high-school senior in Nyack, NY and first became a UU in Springfield, Missouri in 1974.

I realized that our social lives revolved around church and if I were to meet interesting thoughtful people it would be through the Unitarians.

At the moment the Fellowship seems poised to fulfill its promise in terms of larger numbers and more local presence. It is an exciting time to be part of the UUFC.

I would like to see a more usable and lovely worship space. I am interested in the varied experiences and talents that new members will bring us. I would like to see a vibrant adult re program.

Favorite memories at the Fellowship: I remember wild and wooly clusters at Santee State Park; Christine Robinson's sermons; the services that I have led. I met my husband at the UUFC.

Treasurer

Glenn White
Member of the Fellowship since April 2004.

Board Liaison to Building and Grounds Committee

UUFC Positions Held: Caring Committee

Glenn heard about the Fellowship from friends and joined to find kindred spirits. His favorite memory of the Fellowship is the standing ovation for Neal when he announced that he would be our full time minister. Glenn is eager for us to hire a DRE.

Treasurer

Ann Cargill
Member of the Fellowship since April 2004.

Board Liaison: Finance Committee

UUFC Positions Held: Long Range Plan

I joined the fellowship because I like being in a spiritual community that encourages me to define my own spiritual path. I love the diversity and enthusiasm in our group and I look forward to the implementation of our long-range plan. I think we have a lot to offer to our community and want us to become more active and outspoken in the next few years.

At-Large Board Member

Mike Kelly
Member of the Fellowship since the Fall of 2003.

Board Liaison: Social Action Committee

UUFC Positions Held: Moderator, Forum

I joined the fellowship for the fellowship. The primary attraction was Joy and Concerns and the Forum.

My favorite memory is the day my wife Buzzie and I renewed our wedding vows during joys and Concerns.

At-Large Board Member

Joe Long
Member of the Fellowship since 2000.

Board Liaison: Worship Committee

UUFC Positions Held: Past Treasurer; Member of the Long Range Planning, Music, Nominating, and Membership Committees.

Joe became a UU in 1974 in Knoxville, TN and cannot imagine not being a UU. “My first Sunday in Knoxville I found the UU church there, tried it, and decided I was where I belonged.”

What Joe likes most about the Fellowship is the respect for thought and reason.

Some of the things that Joe would like to see us accomplish next is to

1) Grow to become a Program church

2) Grow to become more with comfortable with honest, principled disagreement in judgment

3) More activities and interaction with other UU societies in the area.

4) Incorporating all those people in the community who take for granted that we’re there and reliably come one or two Sundays a year, but don’t actively support the institution of UUFC.

5) Continue with the successful mid-week evening adult-RE-and-Fellowship programs.

At-Large Board Member

Mary McGriff
Member of the Fellowhsip since 1999.

Board Liaison: Caring Committee

UUFC Positions Held: Served on several Boards.

Mary was raised Universalist and knew about the UUFC before moving to Columbia.

What Mary likes best about the UUFC is the people and especially Neal.

Mary would like to see us grow with new members who are interested in working together.

At-Large Board Member

Cheryl Soehl
Member of the Fellowship since 2003.

Board Liaison: Membership Committee

I have been visiting the Fellowship for at least ten years and was gradually seduced into being a full-fledged member. Before joining I left my previous affiliation because
I could not support an institution that seemed not to give value and weight to my feelings, opinions, and the overall status of women in positions of leadership.

I was drawn to the Fellowship because of Leon Spencer's gospel choir, which I joined after seeing an article about it in the newspaper.  I came to know, respect and love many of the members of that group and our shared experiences.

What I like most about the Fellowship is our values, our lack of conceit and complacency about living those values, and our efforts to truly be kind and caring to all.

I would like for us to be able to fulfill the best dreams of our members for a beautiful spiritual space, an inclusive and active community of servant leaders, and the growing of new leaders.

My favorite memory is the gospel concert hosted at the Fellowship.  Even though we failed to clap in time, often strayed from the actual notes we were to sing, and lacked basic rhythmic skill, we rocked the house and then some.  The most fun I have had as a grownup.
