The Green RoomCurrent Unigram (requires Adobe Reader) Unigram Archives E-RECYCLING COMES TO COLUMBIAThe City of Columbia is now accepting electronics for recycling in an attempt to solve the city's growing problem of electronic waste being improperly disposed of in its landfills. Electronic equipment contains hazardous material such as lead, mercury, and hexavalent chromium, which can be introduced in the environment by improper disposal of the waste. Unfortunately this program is restricted to City of Columbia residents only. Proof of residency is required. Electronic equipment (computers, monitors, laptops, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, audio equipment, stereo equipment, cell phones, digital cameras, remore controls, and other electronics) can be dropped off at the city's Public Works headquarters at 2910 Colonial Drive every weekday except Wednesday from 9:30 AM until 3:30 PM. Electronic equipment will not be accepted for recycling via curbside pickup. Any questions regarding the City of Columbis's electronics recycling program should be directed to Mr. Robert Anderson of the Solid Waste Division at xxx-xxxx. Don't live in the City of Columbia and still wish to recycle your electronics? Staples, Inc. announced on May 21, 2007 that it will accept computers, monitors, Items that are smaller such as keyboards and mice (not the furry variety) will be recycled for free. Happy Recycling!!! EARTH WATCH FACTEd. Note: The following is quoted in part from an article on www.uufc.org Within a century, half of the world's climates as we know them will have vanished forever as a direct result of global warming, taking thousands of species with them. These are the gloomy projections of John Williams at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, US, and colleagues, who have carried out the first global assessment of how all of the Earth's local climates will be affected as the world heats up. New, previously unseen types of climate will also emerge, they say, with hotter temperatures and more rain. “It’s the coldest climates that would be replaced,” Williams says. “They would be similar, in 100 years time, but several degrees warmer, so glaciers would retreat and ice would disappear from mountains such as Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.” (New Scientist; March 26, 2007) +++++++++++++++++ -- The Dalai Lama More Ways to Stay InformedPrinted Newsletter: If you are interested in learning more about UUFC, you can get our monthly newsletter, containing information about upcoming events as well as articles by the ministers and members.
