Golden Oldie Sunday
As we approach the New Year and the New Millennium, you get to choose which of three sermons of Rev. Price's from years past you want to experience again or perhaps for the first time:

"The Flaws of Perfection and the Wisdom of Excellence"
"Beliefs Commonly Held Among Us: The Faith of Unitarian Universalism"
"Sacred Time: World Between Worlds"

Cast your vote by calling the office voice mail or e-mail or putting a ballot in the box in the foyer. Please vote but only once. All votes must be received before December 18 so that the winning sermon can be announced Sunday the 19th.

Sunday Service Jan.2. 2000
11:00am – Welcome to the 21st Century

Heather Cunningham

Ever since the Y2K dilemma came into greater awareness, we have anticipated this particular turn of the annual clock. The usual New Year excitement and revelry are now mixed with fear, trepidation and ever-cautiousness for what possible technological implications January 1, 2000 might hold. I have asked, though, who will bear responsibility? People, as the collective, or their machines?

Finance Committee Update

UUFC Greeting Cards—Are you looking for Greeting Cards for this holiday season? The finance committee is offering UUFC specific greeting cards for sale this year on a limited basis. You can order and see examples of the cards in the Social Hall. Stop by and take a look. If you have any questions about the cards you can contact Terry Shaw at tvshaw@axs2k.net.

Thanks to Terry Shaw – and the Finance Committee for the lovely holiday cards available to us this season. Terry designed these attractive cards as a fundraiser, and they provide us with an opportunity to share our values with friends near and far. Thanks for a job well done, Ann Johnson, Pres.UUFC

The Amazons Are Going to General Assembly!!!

About 5 years ago, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the ratification of woman suffrage amendment to the US Constitution, we presented a reader's theater production that told the story of the 72 year struggle to get that amendment passed. A substantial part of the production was made up of the actual songs and words of the suffragists.

Next summer, our General Assembly is taking place in June in Nashville, TN. Nashville is the site where the amendment was finally ratified, and in celebration of the 80th anniversary of that ratification, the General Assembly Planning Committee has invited the UUFC to reprise our performance for GA!! We are one of only 25 groups that are being honored in this way.

We'll be selecting a final cast, made up of 9-12 women and 2 men, within the next few weeks. If you are a woman, have or would like to have acting and singing experience, and would like to be a part of this very important event, contact Don Mohr (782-9468) by December 17th for details about the performance and the trip to Nashville next June.

Big Thanks for the Great Response to our Old Fashioned Bazaar.

On Sat. Nov. 27 we hosted our third Holiday Bazaar, and it was a great success thanks to the work of many people. Jessica Porter was "soul and inspiration" from August on, for a community building and fundraising experience. Our other special people who contributed and/or helped greatly that day were Terry and Dana Shaw, Jo Connor, Joe Kyle, Rebecca Kyle, Joey Kyle, Jennifer Cobb, Heather Cunningham, Janice Burton, Isabel Oake and her mother, Tootsie Holland, Dan Ellsworth, Steve Dennis, and our own kitchen wizard, Will Moredock. We are still selling goodies on Sundays thru Christmas, with lots of things at half price – there’s bargains galore!

The Technology Committee met recently to assess the technological needs of staff, Committee Chairs, and other interested parties. The meeting was informative, although not as well attended as hoped. If you are a staff member or a committee chair, and you have technological needs within the Fellowship, please fill out a Technology Survey Form! If you need a copy of the form, they can be found in the mailbox below the window in Room 1 in the next to the last rows. If you have questions, or need further information, please contact Heather Cunningham at heather@lfs-sc.org.

Netheads is a listing of UUs with personal websites. It is a way to network and share our lives, work, hobbies, and more with one another. If folks are interested they can send their name, email, site's URL, and 3-5 words describing the site to me at bookduck@yahoo.com.

Joys & Concerns

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Beth Crawford, who is recovering from breast cancer and has to go through radiation treatments.

We wish for the continued recovery of David Scharfe’s knee, which was just reconstructed, we know he wants to be able to play soccer again!

We are sad to hear that Tom and Noel Morton will be moving to Nashville, Tennessee, as Tom takes a great new job. We will miss them, their friendship, leadership and contributions to our Fellowship, but we know they are excited about their new opportunities, and we wish them well. See you at General Assembly in June 2000!

Congratulations to John Eichbauer and Wendy Vischer on their invitro pregnancy success! Twins, you say?

Congratulations to Pat Mohr on her election to be Vice President of the Thomas Jefferson District of the UUA. And it was great news to hear that her grandson, John Patrick, has finally gotten off the heart monitor.

Past members John and Sally Weisen are in their new home in San Antonio, and would love to hear from Fellowship friends. Their address is 4942 Brianna Pl, San Antonio, Tx. 78251.

Also, you can write to Russ Howald, in Rm 26, Bed 3, at the Newport Rehabilitation Center, 8355 W 11th St, Newport, Or. 97365

R.E.Holiday Party Sat. Dec.18

The Religious Education Council is pleased to sponsor our second big Holiday party, which will feature Food, Fun and Fanfare! This event is designed for all ages, and we hope to have something to offer everyone.

Beginning at 5:30, we will have craft tables set up to create Holiday ornaments and decorations. Some will be easy for young children, others more difficult and interesting for adults. We will use these ornaments to decorate our Fellowship Holiday Tree, which will be set up, and bare, awaiting our adornment. Around 6:45 we will partake of a delicious spaghetti dinner prepared by RE volunteers, and after dinner, we will be entertained by children and adults who would like to share their talents on stage with songs, musical instruments, poems, stories or short skits. Then we will sing some holiday songs, maybe have a visit by a jolly old elf, and be done by 9:00. There is no admission charge, but we do ask that each family bring a wrapped gift, suitable for child, teen or adult, and labeled as such. These will be taken to the Family Shelter on Two Notch Rd, a place where homeless families can live until they find a permanent residence. We do need help with this event, and there is a sign up poster in the social hall, or you should call Alice Leeper to volunteer, as she is the coordinator.

Saturday, December 11, September Set Holiday Celebration at the home of Betty Glad (787-8452)

Practical Magical Cakes??

Well, maybe not practical... Actually, the More Cakes group will be watching the movie Practical Magic in our December meeting. This is a must-see movie, which asserts "There's a little witch in every woman"!!

Everyone who will be attending is asked to bring a little snack to share or something to sip on. There will, of course, be a brief check-in starting at 7pm, and we will start the movie at 7:30, on December 14th.

For magical answers to your mystical questions, please contact Heather Cunningham at 806-8153 or via email to heather@lfs-sc.org. Thanks, and Happy Holly-days!!

Solstice Spiral Dance

The coming 1999 Winter Solstice holds many fascinating meanings for spiritualists and scientists alike! It is the Solstice, of course, and a Full Moon, AND a Lunar Perigee. Perigee is the time in the year when the Moon is closest to the Earth, shining a whole 14% closer than usual!! In celebration of this remarkable marriage of Solar and Lunar forces, the UUFC will host a special Spiral Dance Service! After a few words of honor and reverence from both the Spiritual and Scientific perspectives found in our fellowship, we will create a spiral, illustrating our common interdependence to the web of life. Afterwards, we will enjoy hot cocoa, cookies, and each other's blessed company!

The service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 22nd, will begin at 7pm in the Fellowship Social Hall and is open to the public (so bring your friends and family!). If you would like to help in the planning process or have any questions, please feel free to contact via email to heather@lfs-sc.org. I look forward to celebrating this Wonderful, Natural occurrence!!
